Highway Design Issues Raised in Saratoga County Accident Case

A woman has filed a lawsuit against Saratoga County, the State of New York, and two individuals for injuries sustained in a car accident at the intersection of a county road and a state highway in September 2009.

The plaintiff, Colleen L. Morris, was traveling on Route 29 when she was hit head-on by a driver who failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. The plaintiff broke one of her femurs as well as both knees and both ankles. She has had to endure several surgeries and has been wheelchair-bound and unable to work. She is suing the county, the state, the driver who ran the stop sign, and the owner of the vehicle that ran the stop sign.

Dangerous Intersection

A firefighter familiar with the intersection described it as tricky and dangerous. The roads curve in such a way that it is difficult for a driver unfamiliar to the area to understand who has the right-of-way. The intersection is especially treacherous at night. There have been 20 accidents at the intersection over the past decade, including two in the past two months before Morris' accident.

What You Can Do

If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident, or someone in your family was injured or killed, contact an experienced personal injury lawyer to discuss your legal options. An attorney can explain what your rights are and how to hold those who caused the accident accountable for their negligence. In New York, this could include the state for the responsibility of posting signs at intersections involving a state road and a county road.
